Writs and Appeals in Criminal Cases
People faced with criminal convictions are allowed only one appeal by right. If the judge or jury made a mistake in the proceeding, the defendant needs a lawyer who is experienced and expert in the appellate process. Our firm includes attorneys who handle appeals and other post-conviction relief, such as habeas corpus and other writs, to provide clients with the best possibility of correcting a wrong conviction, or an illegal or unjust sentence. Prior to trial, most errors by a judge cannot be appealed. A pretrial writ sometimes is available to compel a judge to correct an incorrect ruling.
Writs and Appeals in Civil Cases
Quin Denvir, of counsel to the firm, is an appellate specialist. Mr. Denvir consults and works with other lawyers on civil writs and appeals, including writs of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Denvir also handles complex civil law and motion matters for counsel in civil matters.
